A review of the Oglesby & Butler Iolite WISPR2 vaporizer

Rating:

Iolite WISPR2

In many ways, the Iolite WISPR2 vaporizer by Oglesby & Butler is different from many of the other vaporizers on the market right now. Beyond just being skin deep, those differences will either make or break this unit for some people. After giving it a try, here are my thoughts on this unique vaping unit.

Packaging and Design

The WISPR2 is a high-class piece, and that much is clear from the outset. In a market where most units are heading towards a pen-shaped design, this one eschews that aesthetic for something a little bit different. It is still highly portable, with its square shape fitting in the palm of your hand. The mouthpiece folds away for storage, but when it is extended the unit almost looks like juice box, just to give you an idea of its appearance.

Kit and Equipment

The kit I reviewed came with:

  • One WISPR2 vaporizer
  • Carrying case
  • Maintenance tool
  • Instruction manual
  • Two pipe cleaners
  • One filling chamber
  • One mouthpiece
  • Once fine mesh screen
  • Two mouthpiece tips

Additional parts and supplies are available via the Iolite website, including filling chambers, mesh screens and mouthpiece tips.

Performance

At this point you might be wondering why I haven’t mentioned a battery pack, or recharging system. That is because unlike many other vapes, the Iolite WISPR2 runs on butane, with no battery required. For many, this is the biggest selling point. There’s nothing worse than either taking your vape on a hike in the backcountry, or a long night at the club, and running out of battery. This unit is for dried herb only, with no attachments for oil, wax or essential oils.

Battery-powered vapes are popular because they heat quickly and to an optimum temperature every time. While this unit does take about 30 seconds to reach a temperature of 410 degrees Fahrenheit, it does do it consistently, and it produces a good amount of vapor every time. Each tank of butane will last for 2.5 hours, and the unit is easily refillable.

Overall

While the butane-powered idea is a good one, some people do complain of an aftertaste while they are vaping. It did not prove to be a turnoff for me, but that’s something to think about if you are considering purchasing this unit. Otherwise, the WISPR2 is a great portable vape.
